My Mother
When my mother became ninety three,
I remember what she said to me.
"Listen, my son, I have something to say,
At my age now I don't have long to stay.
Most of my grandchildren I rarely see,
It makes me so happy when they come to me.
My life is lonely and there's naught to do,
The things I have not done, I leave to you.
There are many folks who could use some aid,
If you will help them, you will be paid.
God, in his wisdom will help you in this plight
Any day soon He will lead me to the light."
My mother lived a very full life
A total of ninety three years.
She did her best to help the needy
And looked to the future with no fears.
All her life she did good deeds
So other would not feel her stress.
She was contented in doing her thing.
She never minded doing with less.
The days flew by one by one
And quickly turned into years.
Now she is gone, her wish fulfilled,
Her memory will banish all tears.
